Drama: Burris denied Senate Seat

Earlier today we posted about the controversy surrounding former Illinois attorney general Roland Burris’ decision to go to D.C. in efforts to be sworn in as a U.S. Senator, filling President-Elect Barack Obama’s seat. Burris was appointed by the man with the tarnished reputation, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

It’s only Tuesday and the results are in: denied, due to lack of credentials, as Illinois Sec. of State Jesse White has not approved Burris’ appointment made by Gov. Blagojevich.

“I will not be accepted, I will not be seated, I will not be allowed on the the floor,” Burris told reporters outside in Washington today after being in Capitol Hill for a mere 21 minutes. “I’m not seeking to have any type of confrontation, so I will be speaking with my attorney.”

It has been speculated that Burris will take his case to the Supreme Court in hopes that Sec. of State White will be forced to certify the appointment. If that does not happen, Burris’ legal team may go to district court in Washington.

Blagojevich remains silent on the matter, and the circus continues.
