Japan is doing it.
San Francisco and their hipsters are doing it.
Could Chicago be next?
In this NPR article, they go on to describe how hundreds of San Francisco loacations are placing bar codes for easy information access. Basically, you need a nice cell phone with a good camera, and high speed access to the internet and BLAM, it will pop up all sorts of information about the location.
Is it just me or does this seem highly dangerous. I mean, a whole new era of prank will be upon us. It wouldn’t take much to forge some barcodes. People will be getting the wrong mail, people will be changing their friends bar codes to make them look like child molestors.
Could you imagine them putting a barcode on Wrigley Field or like, the Art Institute? ‘Hey Fred, Is that Wrigley?’ ‘ I don’t know Bill, scan the code!’
I wonder if the Golden Gate Bridge has a bar code.
I love technology, but I hope they never install something like this in Chicago.
