Chicago in the Blogs: February 5th, 2009

I was watching Fox yesterday and Amy Freeze is telling me that there is a thawing coming to the greater Chicago area. I am very excited for this, it has been a long, cold and snowy winter. I know that comes to no consolation to those in northern Indiana who are digging out of 2 feet of fresh snow, but I am very pleased that this weekend is going to start us on the long path to spring!

In the blogs, quite a bit of attention has been paid to the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid. Here is what is in the blogs for Thursday, February 5th, 2009:

The Suntimes reports that violent crime is down in the city so far this year, but its a hard thing to swallow considering last year was one of the worst violent crimes years in the past 20.

Crains Chicago Business reports that more jobs could be coming to Chicago soon, and that would defintely be good news for everyone in the city.

UIC is giving the Olympics free reign of all their venues, which could help in quest to land the games.

At least other city thinks Obama will make no difference in securing the Olympic games. We will see, Madrid.

10 year old student commits suicide in the school, yet parents are having trouble getting information from the city. Nice…
