The Wrigley Field Workout Plan

This past week I got quite a workout. So I am going to share with you my daily Wrigley Field workout plan! Feel free to substitute steps when needed. However, if you are a die-hard Cubs fan you will find this workout plan a money saver and a great way to get in shape!

Now in order for this plan to work effectively, you must allow yourself to get to the ballpark at least 2 hours before the game so you are on Waveland for batting practice with the ballhawks.

  1. If you are driving, park your car north of Bertaeu on Clark Street. This will save you $30 dollars from parking near the ballpark. It is free parking for those who didn’t know. It always amazed me that people will pay 30 bucks to park their car. There is ALWAYS parking on Clark. If you are taking the El, instead of getting off at Addison, get off at Belmont. This will replicate the walk.
  2. Walk .8 miles from Car (El Stop) to the ballpark. Make one lap around the ballpark to see what is going on as far as Batting Practice. On the Sheffield side you can see if the BP cages are set up. If they are you are in business.
  3. Arrive on Waveland with mitt in hand. Play catch with your buddy, or ask one of the ballhawks to throw around the ball. If you aren’t a ‘playing catch’ kind of person, walk up Kenmore to see the spot where Sammy Sosa hit a 540′ home run and then walk back around the park once.
  4. While BP is going on, keep your eye to the sky and try to outrun everyone to the baseballs that come rocketing out of the park.
  5. After BP is done, walk around the park again. Each time you do this you are walking 1/6th of a mile. Then have your cool down for roughly 30 minutes.
  6. After the ballgame has started, approach the ticket counter and get standing room tickets.
  7. Walk the concourse for 5 innings. Switching off sides between right handed batters and left handed batters so you might have a play on a foul ball. If you do, run towards it. Avoid making eye contact with ushers. They may not want you walking around the whole time. Walk to each end of the park, then up the ramp, and back down. Do this for 5 innings and you will have walked over 1 mile.
  8. After the Cubs win; you should leave the ball park on the Addison side and walk all the way around, then head to the car. If you are taking the El, you should exit on the Waveland side walk to the Wilson El stop.

If you do this properly, you should have only spent 14 dollars and walked a whopping 4 miles! All while watching a Cubs game. It doesn’t get any sweeter than that! The Wrigley Field Workout Plan!
